When someone asks you for your life story, what do you tell them? Do I start at the beginning and give them a biography, or do I tell them about it the way I see it? Second one? Well we're in for a ride then~
Family
Growing up with 6 brothers is somethin' you don't really expect to NOT effect a girl. I mean, sure I'm super competitive, probably too much sometimes. But when you're in a place like that, you've gotta be loud. You've gotta have that energy to be heard above the noise.
Dad was a cop, Mom a lawyer. Me and the youngest Brother (I'm second to last in that line of kids) are the only ones that didn't end up being cops. Don't really think that was ever in the cards for us anyway, but neither of us wanted that to begin with. Danny is a dancer, a good one. Don't tell him I said that. And I wanted to out-do all of my other bros. Thinking I'm going to join the Army, not sure what I was thinking with that one.
Mutant is such a strong word.
So here I am, a regular teenager-ish, in the woods with my friends. We're hanging around a campfire, everyone's had a few drinks and suddenly some blonde wonder (Moi) manages to drop a can right into a roaring fire. Being the er... bright young woman I was at the time, I decided to stick my hand right into the centre of the heat and take the can back out.
Everyone thought it was really cool I didn't get burned, at least until I had another drink and the fire mysteriously doubled in size when I went to stoke it. Yup. It was barely a week later when some dude in a suit turns up from a school. When I first saw this guy, you have to understand I was a kid at the time, I figured he was here to throw me in jail for underage drinking. So I ran, ended up freaking out and setting fire to the sitting room... Which I guess triggered my youngest Brother, Danny's power too. Oopsie daisy.
Plans, so many plans.
For some reason, I got the idea into my head that the cool thing to do to one up my family would be to join the military, become a medical corpsman and be an awesome hero. Thing is, I worked my ass off to become... Well I'm not even sure, I wanted to be a super hero or something I guess, I studied optional martial arts, I worked my ass off to get into appropriate training courses at my school and the college attached, out competed everyone.
But then...
I was just barely getting my life started before my childish dreams were shattered. One viral video, was all it took for the world to start to come across at the seams. My world. Next thing I know, the school is overrun. I don't panic, we're told to comply with the law and I... I do.
Look you have to understand, me and Danny were raised to respect the law. So we did. And we were tagged, and stuck in a work camp like animals.
Break the chains.
So here is the thing. They didn't know what they were doing. Not at first anyway. People were starting to be given these colour registrations, and I don't reckon they had much clue what was dangerous and what wasn't. Long story short, don't stick a Pyro and a power booster in the same area, unless you want buildings burnt to the ground.
I ran. I dragged Danny with me and we ran. It's all a blur after that. Phone calls that I can't believe didn't get us caught, letters and drop offs, sleeping under what little cover we could. I thought I was going to freeze to death.
A fresh start.
I don't know how they did it. I don't know how much money they used, what debts were taken and how many laws they went an' broke. But the family managed to get us set up, in a new city. Fresh identities. It was like something out a spy movie, but here we are. A small apartment, one steady job, one not so steady job. But Portland is our home now.

Pyrokinesis and flame resistant physiology
Pyro Kinesis:
April’s power allows her to generate flames across the entirety of her body, just an inch or so above the surface of her skin, while they are attached to her body she has the capability to control them to a degree, and form them into simple compacted shapes, like spheres. She can then release the flames into the environment, or throw them if they are shaped. However, Once released April can control the flame's density and shape to a degree, either increasing the size of the flames or putting them out.
April’s fire burns at a temperature of 1200 Degrees Celsius, about the same as most Methanol flames, and much like methanol flames April’s fire burns blue whilst it’s attached to her body. Since there is no fuel being burnt the flames attached to her body don’t give off smoke, at least until they make contact with something else flammable.
Flame Resistant Physiology:
April’s body has properties akin to asbestos. (Minus the toxicity), she has more resistance to heat sources that are close to her, and her body is much harder to set on fire than a regular human being. She doesn’t burn nearly as easily, it either takes a much longer continues exposure, or an extreme, uncommon level of heat.
LIMITATIONS
-April can only maintain her power for about a 20 minute period before it completely exhausts her, and the flames burn themselves out, needing at least a couple hours rest before she tries to produce flame again.
-April can only compact the flame attached to her body into small contained shapes, like spheres, cubes and the like. And none of these can be larger than a foot (Soccer)-ball.
--She can throw a fireball about 40 feet once it’s solidly formed, as they aren’t as aerodynamic as something like a tennis ball.
-April has no resistance to any other kinds of burns. E.g. Chemical, Electrical, radiation, cold, ect.
-April can only manipulate active bodies of fire for about 2 minutes at a time, and only a few times a day, 4-5 depending on how well rested she is.
SIDE-EFFECTS
-April’s power actively burns calories when she uses it, as a result of this she has to take in an increased amount whenever she’s been making use of her flame generation.
-Using her power dehydrates her body at an increased rate, if she uses up her full duration more than once without supplanting the lost water with at least a litre more, she will likely pass out in short order.
-April feels the cold more than others, being very susceptible to powers which can lower the temperature to the extreme, she also finds it harder to generate flames in this condition. Her weakness to cold starts to kick in once it drops below 0 degrees Celsius (32F) she rapidly starts to drop her body temperature, and will quickly feel the effects of moderate hypothermia, even if she’s relatively well wrapped up. In these temperatures April has to wear heavy duty thermals to avoid poor health.
-While April has resistance to flames and heat themselves, she has zero protection against things they interact with, like smoke created when it connects with things other than herself, and is just as susceptible to these things as any regular human.
-Obviously fire consumes oxygen to burn, so obviously in low oxygen environments, this can be detrimental to April or people around her, if she’s consuming oxygen for her flames.
-April’s flame is a complete combustion similar to that of a methanol fire, produced from her own body, whilst she doesn’t produce Co2 outside of her body, the chemical reaction of activating her power causes her to produce more internal Co2. This extra Co2 is then breathed out normally, and as a result, as she approaches her time limit, she begins to feel the effects of Co2 poisoning.
-If April overuses pyrokinesis to control bodies of flame she starts to build a headache, leading to a migraine and eventually passing out.
