HERE'S YOUR LIFELINE
The day Sam noticed a microscopic scratch on her late mother's Boston PD badge was the day she realized she'd be moving to Montana. Recruiters were quick to show up at her door. To explain to her and her father about a school hiding in the mountains for people like her. She was only thirteen, and knew nothing about Montana, but it felt like an opportunity.
A lifeline. To get away from the insufferable man that was her father. Ironic that it was because of her mother's badge that she could move away.
HEY YOU, WHAT'S WITH THOSE EYES? WHAT YA BEEN THINKIN?
She made Sam nervous, but the Boston girl always tried to hide it with a grin. With a laugh. She didn't like being nervous, but she liked her. So she strove for her attention - to catch her in little moments between the walk from the entryway of their shared space in their dormitory to her room. Was it childish that she was bothering her? Probably. But there was so much to learn behind what looked like a stoic expression to most people.
Ellis was an anomaly.
The first time she kissed her, she was drunk. She had to be. Sam wasn't one to say she was a coward, but how could she go up and kiss someone she was sure hated her? Or more like fallen on top of on a school boat trip.
But she kissed her back, and she wasn't drinking.
I'D BUILD YOU AN EMPIRE
Years only seem to pass by quickly when reflecting back at them. And those years were the best. Graduation from Bellefonte sent them away from Montana and to California. Because more than anything, Sam wanted to marry the woman that constantly pushed her to be the best she could be.
If it wasn't for her, she would have never applied at the police academy, let alone been sworn in to serve and protect. If it wasn't for her, she wouldn't have this wonderful life. A family.
She brought the most beautiful baby into this world.
Too bad that six months later, everything started to change.
THE OCEAN IS ON FIRE
Her abilities weren't unknown in the precinct. The detective wasn't exactly quiet about it after the summer that video was released.
At least she didn't really talk about her powers.
The conversation was hard to ignore, but not because she could hear it. Rather, it was the sweat that was coming down her fellow detective's temple that caught her attention. And the way her sargent paced. A careful eye and training gave her the opportunity to read their lips across the room.
All mutants need to be reported and turned over.
She looked away before they looked at her.
Instinct took over. There was only one priority; her family. She reached for her desk phone, punching in a familiar number. Thank god she picked up.
"I can't have you ask any questions right now, love."
Sam never requested she didn't ask questions.
THE DAY HAS TURNED TO RUST
A new city. Portland. It was where her brother lived. It was the situation that they fell into, and it worked. She had to put her badge down and start something new. Nothing satisfied her like wearing the uniform, let alone being an electrician.
Lennox was five now. Almost six. And nothing has changed for the better. The threat of camps were still very real. Would this change at all in another five years? When he could start showing abilities himself?
Even in their every day lives, the threat felt real. They established stability, but that was so fragile when her wife was a class red or whatever that meant.
It had to stop.
She started with small investigations. Then small interference with guardian activity. She couldn't do nothing, even if it was reckless. There were nights she was late coming home, and she tried her best to play it off as work. It was a kind of work, right? Working to make the world better. At least, a little.
It caused her to stumble upon an opportunity. Sort of. Nothing was solid yet, but it was still better than nothing. And there was comfort in knowing she wasn't the only one who understood that change warranted action.

💕 HOMOSEXUAL
💼 ELECTRICIAN/FORMER DETECTIVE
🧬 ENHANCED VISION
📒 YELLOW
ENHANCED VISION
Sam's eyesight is heightened beyond what the normal human can see. This means she can pick up on small details that would otherwise go unnoticed by others, and still clearly see details from distances where normal eyesight starts to blur. She can see three times better than someone with 20/20 vision when using her ability.
LIMITATIONS
Sam's vision is only enhanced when it comes to the clarity of what she can see. She can't see through solid objects or anything of that sort. She cannot use this ability constantly and it is most effective used in small dosages, however she can use it for extended periods of time. If she uses it for a total of more than two hours within a day, she'll start to feel side effects. If she is looking far or very close at an abject for too long, it takes an extra second for her focus to adjust when she looks to something else.
SIDE-EFFECTS
Because of this, Sam is more sensitive to light than the average person. If she uses it for too long, she can risk damaging her eyesight. Migraines are something of a normal occurrence when it comes to her ability. She's also more sensitive to eye trauma, and if she uses her ability too much in a day she needs to rest her eyes or risk damaging her sight.
