Yekaterina, better known as Katya, is a private person. She usually shuts people out because she's afraid she'll hurt them when she gets close to them. Which is quite hard because she feels emotions very strongly. She's experienced many hardships and learned to be stronger through them, though this is why she's so closed off. It gave her quite a low self-esteem, which makes it easy for her to be manipulated.

She manifested quite late, at age fifteen and after the catastrophe a year earlier. Katya had a hard time controlling her powers at first, which scared her foster parents, with whom she and her brother Cole lived. Their foster parents sold them out to the government not soon after her brother's powers had manifested too and they were shipped off to the camps. Since she and her brother both got classified as yellow, they weren't seen as a real serious threat and thus they were allowed to live. Katya endured hard work and experiments there for four years. In those four years, she learned to control her powers better. But she tried to repress them the best she could. It was the safest to do at camp. She became quiet and closed off to everyone except her brother. 

Then, in early 2019, she and her brother escaped one of the camps and just like that, they were on the run from the government. Having great feelings of distrust and anger towards said government's injustice towards their kind, they fell in with the rebelling mutants. 

KINETIC ABSORPTION

Katya has the ability to absorb forms of kinetic energy into her and use it to create blasts of energy that are very taxing on the body. Kinetic energy is energy an object has because of its motion. So if in a physical fight, she can absorb the energy of a punch someone throws her way and transform it into an energy blast. She can about absorb the power of any moving object or person and put it to use. Granted, the power of her energy blasts depends on how strong the movement and thus the kinetic energy is. 

At first, she couldn't control it and it sometimes happened at random and her blasts were unfocused. Over the years she's had them, Katya learned how to control them happening and though she is still working on making her blasts more focussed, they usually hit their mark. She's not as versed at her powers as others, mostly due to the fact that she had to discover and learn everything on her own.



LIMITATIONS

The stronger the kinetic energy she absorbs, the worse the strain is on her body.  If an energy blast is strong she's most likely out of commission for a while. However, when there is not kinetic energy at all, her powers don't work. It's an inconstant power, that if people are smart about it, they could avoid triggering. 
It also relies greatly on focus. If Katya doesn't have enough focus, her blasts get messy and might not hit the target. And moreover, if she loses her focus badly, she could have trouble keeping her powers at bay in everyday life if the kinetic energy is strong enough. 



SIDE-EFFECTS

If Katya normally uses her power, that's to say no very big blasts of energy, she feels an overall pain in her body. How painful, depends on how strong her blast is. However, when she absorbs a huge load of kinetic energy and thus overuses her power by creating a very strong blast, it's almost always too strong for her body to handle. The same goes for multiple normal blasts in a short time period. That kind of use of her power results in either various physical illnesses, dependant on the strength or numbers of her blasts, or system failure of her body. This last one is very dangerous and one of the reasons Katya tries to not use her powers most of the time. Her vital organs, such as her heart or kidneys, for example, could shut down. Which is very deadly.
