It's not like having a higher degree in math would change how to do construction work. Plus, if you did get a degree in construction or something, you wanted to be an architect or something, not actual construction work. Flynn wanted to actually be the builder. The blond nodded as the girl explained what she was working on was. It was quite the unique topic, to say the least but who was he to judge. At least she was still going to school, and on top of that, actually doing work for it. "Hmm I see, that sounds pretty interesting. What degree are you working towards?" He looked the girl over and wondered if she even knew what she wanted to study yet exactly. "Do you know yet?Wait, maybe this was one of those times that he could be all adult and give her some good advice that would last her a life time. Something about how like, it wasn't about the money and stuff and to find a job where she can just enjoy life.. Although at the same time he wasn't so sure he wanted to make himself sound/feel so old. He probably was only a couple years older than her, right? He was never good at being to tell people's ages from looks. He'd lost that game way too many times to even attempt it anymore.

[attr="class","titlequote"]WELL YOU LOOK LIKE YOURSELF [attr="class","titlequote2"]but you're somebody else [attr="class","titlequote3"]ONLY IT AIN'T ON THE SURFACE [attr="class","titlequote2"] Flynn scrunched his face up when Eri literally said, 'the word'. It had been a while since somebody had done that... His lips parted slightly as he tried to say something but the words froze in his throat. Well played. Of course he didn't have any plans so there wasn't a reason to say no but he couldn't help but feel the word dancing around in his head. The more he looked at her though, Eri was right, what was the reservation for if he didn't have plans tomorrow morning? But then like, stranger danger, right? With the night upon them, it was probably a wiser idea to just regroup in the morning or something. "I suppose not, lets do it." He said with a nod. Wait, that wasn't no. He clenched his teeth together for a moment before offering a smile. He wasn't drunk per say, but he wasn't so sure he meant yes. There was no turning back now though. Flynn stood up and stretched for a brief moment glancing around before looking back to Eri. "Alrighty uh, since we're doing this now.. didn't quite get a chance to make a lot but if I recall correctly, there's a few places not too far from here, or we could visit some of my favourite places but not all of those are as close and might take a bit of walking to get it. So, the choice is up to you."

He did his best to scrape by and when he was done with highschool he never had a reason to try and 'study' again. College never crossed his mind and he went straight for the work force, finding himself a career he was happy with. With that said, he was glad that he had lucked out and this girl was indeed studious. Flynn made sure to take some mental notes when she explained to him about studying and what helps her the most. Unfortunately he hadn't brought any paper with him so, writing down the information he had learned about would have to come at a later date. "I see, thank you very much. That's fairly insightful." he said, nodding a bit as he looked back over his textbooks. Next time he would definitely come prepared, if he could find the will to come again at least. He wasn't sure how he'd be able to write it in a way he'd explain it to someone else, or if he wanted to explain it, but he would be sure to try writing some stuff down. The boy looked at the girl for a moment, thinking about how to answer her question. "Mm, something of the sorts. How about yourself, what're you studying for?" he quickly asked. He was interested in what she was up to, but he couldn't tell if it was mostly because he didn't really want to talk about why or what he was researching. Regardless! Hopefully she didn't mind explaining what she was doing because Flynn was unsure of what to do if she pried more into his selection of books. He wasn't terrible at lying, but he didn't have an amazing track record of coming up with believable stories either so, it would be a toss up that he wasn't sure he wanted to risk.

[attr="class","titlequote"]WELL YOU LOOK LIKE YOURSELF [attr="class","titlequote2"]but you're somebody else [attr="class","titlequote3"]ONLY IT AIN'T ON THE SURFACE [attr="class","titlequote2"] Flynn laughed a bit when she admitted that it wasn't all fun in games. The more he thought about it the more he could see where she was coming from but he definitely would have given it a shot as well. Flynn nodded in agreement to the comment about it paying regardless. That's more or less where he was at in life. He didn't have some glorious job that everyone was jealous of, but he enjoyed it enough and paid enough for him to live what he would consider as comfortably. With that said, before Flynn had a chance to really react, he had suddenly become a tour guide. He looked to Eri with a somewhat surprised look as he chewed on his lip. He couldn't really say no, he had been the one to offer but he hadn't really expected her to say yes or even yes so quickly. He figured at best a few weeks, maybe a month or two down the road she'd reach out and he could offer some addresses but guess that wasn't happening. It didn't take long for the shots to arrive and he couldn't help but chuckle and shake his head slightly. He grabbed the shot and raised it with Eri. "I guess here's to being a tour guide." he said with a grin as he lifted the glass to his mouth and let the liquid easily slip down his throat. "Just say the word and if I'm not working, we can meet somewhere and I'll show you around town."

He wasn't never much of a book person though and so his facade didn't last too long. He had managed to read some interested stuff, the only question was, would he remember it in the morning? The chances were probably not.. or at least he would probably forget most of it but it wouldn't stop him from trying to learn what he could. He looked over at the girl across the table. She seemed quite studious.. perhaps she was even a student or something. The blond chewed on his tongue as he did his best to figure out how to talk to her... "Erm, excuse me miss.." he said in a hushed tone as he looked around a bit, making sure nobody was looking at him for being too loud. "It seems like you know what you're doing when it comes to studying.." he said with a brief chuckle as he looked at her books and such, "if you don't mind me asking, what is your best method for remembering the stuff you study?" He probably looked like an idiot to her, but he didn't really have time for those kinds of thoughts, he probably would never see this girl again anyways..

[attr="class","titlequote"]WELL YOU LOOK LIKE YOURSELF [attr="class","titlequote2"]but you're somebody else [attr="class","titlequote3"]ONLY IT AIN'T ON THE SURFACE [attr="class","titlequote2"] Flynn mulled over Eri's writing topic. He wasn't sure if that was true or not, but getting to go out to bars and clubs every night sounded like a good gig to him and if he had the chance he would have taken the job too if he was in her position. "Well it sounds like you've managed to find an enjoyable story to write about, I hope's been coming along nicely." he finished with a nod. The terrakinetic finished his drink and watched as Eri looked at him curiously. He chuckled a bit, slowly bobbing his head as he agreed with the drunk part. "Don't fancy writing about drunk people?" Flynn jested. He probably wouldn't have either but, going to bars every night for a job still seemed fun regardless. Maybe that was just the alcoholic in him but no matter. "Yeah, it's a shame that many of the local places fail and get abandoned or are quickly bought out." He glanced at his drink, debating on ordering another but soon turned back to Eri. "But what can you do." he said with a smile and a shrug. "If you're ever writing a story about those kinds of places, let me know and maybe I could show you around." He couldn't promise though, sometimes he was busy with work for days at a time and some of those places were getaways for him but he'd be willing to show her some of his second or their favourites.

[googlefont="Dancing Script"] [attr="class","titlequote"]WELL YOU LOOK LIKE YOURSELF [attr="class","titlequote2"]but you're somebody else [attr="class","titlequote3"]ONLY IT AIN'T ON THE SURFACE [attr="class","titlequote2"] The terrakinetic nodded a bit as he took another drink of his beer. "That's understandable.. anything in particular you researching about? Perhaps I could point you in the right direction?" He wasn't sure if he'd get an answer, and if he did, he wasn't exactly sure he wanted to hear it but he felt like it was a natural question to ask so he went for it. When Eri asked about him and gestured to the dust and such he laughed a bit, "Yeah sorry about that, I'm a construction worker, the stuff gets everywhere." he finished with a shrug. "Helped out with a lot of buildings here in Portland. It's been a real pleasure getting to explore everywhere. I'm not sure how long you've been here but, if you haven't gotten the chance to really travel around, I would definitely recommend it. Lots of hidden gems in this place." he said with a soft chuckle as he reminisced on the fond memories. Many people, including those he worked with, didn't enjoy being construction worker and it wasn't all that hard to understand why. Poor hours, less than decent pay for the work being done, poor working conditions, snow, rain, freezing cold, boiling hot, didn't matter to the employers. For him though it was basically a dream job. He loved almost every minute of it. Being paid to play around in dirt all day(more or less)? It was a dream come true for someone like him.

Flynn had to be at work by 4:00am and was 'forced' to work for the next 12 hours. He didn't complain too much because he really enjoyed being around all the dirt and building stuff but there were definitely times when he had other stuff on his mind and he couldn't wait till the end of his shift. Now that it was over though, he quickly made his way to one of the nearby libraries. He didn't visit them all that often, mostly because he didn't have too much interest in reading or learning.. Flynn was really only there because someone he had spoken with recently had commented on needed to know your enemy like the back of your hand. Of course, if a sane person mulled over the words, they'd probably realise it had other meanings but Flynn was now at the library searching for books on the government. After lots of searching, he had finally managed to pick a few out and he walked around looking for a table. He was looking for someone who was alone, perhaps someone to make idle chatter with but he didn't want to sit next to lots of people at a table. Sometimes they could get too noisy or even just be nosy and it was hard to ignore a group of people than just one person if he needed to. Fortunately, Flynn found the perfect spot next to a rather cute girl and sat down, apologising quietly as he sat. He was slightly dirty as he didn't really get a chance to go home and shower but his clothes were more or less fairly casual. He glanced at the girl was doing before looking around the library. He wasn't all that interested in what she was doing but he couldn't help but feel isolated and a little out of place. It probably wasn't that obvious that he was out of place here but he definitely felt like it was pretty clear. Regardless he finally opened one of the books he had found and attempted to digest what it was saying..

[googlefont="Dancing Script"] [attr="class","titlequote"]WELL YOU LOOK LIKE YOURSELF [attr="class","titlequote2"]but you're somebody else [attr="class","titlequote3"]ONLY IT AIN'T ON THE SURFACE [attr="class","titlequote2"] Flynn took note of the girl's order and he could feel the left corner of his mouth curling upwards ever so slightly. For whatever reason, her ordering tequila was extremely amusing. Maybe because it was a very peculiar drink and didn't sit well with a lot of people. Or perhaps it was because it was a drink he had often. He glanced over to her as she put her notebook away and looked him over, he felt a shiver dance along his spine but he was sure not to show. It was still too early to know if he'd made a mistake trying to talk to her. He watched as she turned to face him more and he did the same, being sure to look up and friendly enough for someone here. Flynn looked down at her hand for a brief moment as it was extended to him, not many people were into handshakes now-a-days. After only a few split seconds the girl offered her name and he looked back to her, offering a warm smile of his own. "Nice to meet you Eri." he said as he rubbed his hands together before wiping them on his sleeves to get the dust off. The blond grabbed her hand, lightly but firm none the less. "Flynn." he finished. He looked to the bartender as he brought the drinks over and Flynn was quick to take a sip, testing to make sure it was okay. He nodded a bit internally as he mulled over the taste before looking back to Eri. "So, do you write a lot?" he said in reference to the notebook earlier. He didn't want to mention that it was slightly weird to be at a bar with a notebook, but in the end who was he to dictate what was strange and what wasn't after all. Some would say Flynn was strange himself, and he was a mutant on top of those accusations.

[googlefont="Dancing Script"] [attr="class","titlequote"]WELL YOU LOOK LIKE YOURSELF [attr="class","titlequote2"]but you're somebody else [attr="class","titlequote3"]ONLY IT AIN'T ON THE SURFACE [attr="class","titlequote2"] Once again Flynn found himself walking through the club district later in the evening. Something told him there to keep coming back here but he never found anyone worth talking to. So far this place had only caused him more troubles but he couldn't help but hope there were others like him actually getting something started. Every he left he told himself he wouldn't come back here but time and time again he broke his promise to himself. Flynn knew nothing good really came from the club district but along with the nagging feeling of someone calling to him he found peace among the masses. Something along the lines of hiding in plain sight... He looked to the night sky, he hadn't dressed up in anything fancy but he had definitely prepared for the cold. It wasn't long before he placed a hand on his stomach as he felt it twist and turn as it always did when he was about to interact with normal people. They made his skin crawl with how delusional they seemed to be. Sure, he'd agree that there were a few out there that were good people but they seemed to be stay far away from Flynn for whatever reason. Eventually after walking around for some time, he managed to find a suitable bar to sit down at, one that had plenty busy so nobody would look at him too much. Flynn was sure to keep his head forward and head straight as he walked to stool at the bar and sat down between a man and a lady. The blond sighed a bit as he noticed bits of dirt on the floor beneath his chair already, he wasn't sure if it was because he'd worn the jacket without washing it or because the stuff had stuck to him during his walk but there was nothing he could do about it now. He had to make sure he looked like he wasn't as nervous as he was feeling. It was probably just him being paranoid but it always felt like eyes were drawn to him more than others regardless of what he did. He took a quiet deep breath and looked for the nearest bartender. "Uh excuse me sir," Flynn said as he raised his hand slightly, "Two drinks please, one for me and uh, whatever the lady is having." he said with a nod, gesturing to the female next to him. He wasn't sure if she would even want to talk or if she was alone for the matter but neither really mattered to him. He'd happily converse with anyone nearby in an attempt to get out of his this reality for a bit.

[googlefont="Krub"] [attr="class","boldtext"] Flynn Alexander Matthews LOOKS LIKE Cody Christian Flynn's hair is a light brown, though some might argue that it was simply a dark blonde color. He usually has it kept in a longish manner on top and brushed over to the right with the sides buzzed fairly short. He has two fierce looking eyes that have the wonderful hue of a dark blue/green mix. Flynn stands strong at what he'd consider to be slightly above average at 6'1''. Flynn is in reasonably good shape due to him being relatively active in the gym. He is usually dressed very casually, knowing that whatever he chooses to wear will most likely be extremely dirty by the end of the day whether he likes it or not but he does have his moments where he likes to dress fancy.
Hardworking His original parents drilled this into him until the very end, always making sure that he put 100% into anything and everything he did. This mentality helped Flynn when he struggled with his powers after he turned 11, it was a stressful time and he wasn't sure he would even be able to really understand what he had the ability to do.
Patient The apple doesn't fall far from the tree is an expression that could easily be used here. Raised by two very patient parents, it was a characteristic that was molded into every inch of his bones. When he was taken to Bellefonte Academy, he had to give up everything he knew just because he had accidentally caused a building to fall on someone who was aggressively bullying him.
Reliable It's just a part of who he is, he'd always follow through on his word.. with that said, pay attention to how he words things, it could save you some disappointment.
Cunning Flynn, who’s had to live through the fall of Bellefonte and keep his powers completely hidden has grown skilled with his words and how he plans things out. He has managed to hide though no doubt in part due to records being lost of him. With the lies and deceit come casualties and he doesn't really have a problem lying to get what he needs, even with friends.
Ruthless Something about the way people treated mutants irked him as he assumed it would most of them. Mutants, while some had more dangerous powers, could still use those dangerous powers for good things. But it didn't seem to matter to anyone. Over the last 5 years Flynn has understood that well, acquiring various scars from people who saw his ability, or as he would tell people, 'accidents'. Since other people didn't care to hold back, should the occasion call for it, he doesn't either.
Procrastinator For whatever reason, Flynn gets about 99% of his work done within the last day. He knows it's a bad habit but he doesn't really understand why. Some people chose to do things immediately and get them over with, he preferred to take his time and.. learn as much as possible.. before attempting the task.
🎂 Twenty-Three 🧠Male 💕 Heterosexual 💼 Construction Worker 🧬 Terrakinesis 📙 Terrakinesis
Earth manipulation is for the most part, what it sounds like; the manipulation of the earth. With this said, someone trained in this art has the ability to move earth based materials. For Flynn this basically is mostly the moving of dirt and dust but is not limited to just these things (sand, rocks, etc.). Flynn's power, is connected as much to his muscles as it is to his mind. When he works to manipulate the earth around him it requires his whole body, or at least is made easier, and thus also acts as a sort of limitation at times. Of course, it's his goal to be able to move his body only slightly and get the same results as he would when moving his whole body but doesn't see that happening any time soon. If he isn't awake (because he just woke up) fully he can have troubles using his abilities. He similarly has difficulties using them when he's unable to move around freely. The various motions and movements pull earth and earth materials from the ground around him and bend them to his will. It's like pulling against invisible weights which requires a good deal of focus on his end as well as muscle strength and because of this, he tries to go out and exercise quite frequently as well as lift weights, even if they aren't super heavy it's more so to maintain control over what he has accomplished already.
LIMITATIONS -Flynn is not able to create earth, he needs an existing source -His power is linked to his mental and physical strength which means the more tired he is, the faster his ability fades -The more firm the earth is, the harder it is for him to manipulate it -With his current training, he is able to lift roughly 1.5 times his own weight at one time
SIDE-EFFECTS -Headaches after too much use -Bloody noses/nausea after extreme uses -Is almost always covered in dust or has bits of dirt in his hair -Easily/quickly dehydrated PLAYED BY Blizzard Blizzard#1147 Male » Canada/EST » Twenty-Two [newclass=".boldtext b"]font-family:Krub; color: #7a4d6e;[/newclass]
