A thin smirk touched Drew's lips as he cast a brief, sideways glance in Erika's direction. Her mockingly melodramatic declaration at his lack of knowledge regarding the climate in Texas came to no surprise. It was a common misconception by those close to him that the young CEO-to-be believed he knew everything worth knowing. Drew, of course, disagreed with this perception. If anyone Drew was startlingly aware of how little he truly did know. He was simply better at faking it than most. "Maybe pack a sweater just to be safe." Drew finally added, the smirk unwavering even as an emotion far less sly gleamed in his dark eyes.
Lips parted to express a mutual interest in turning the weekend into a much longer trip, though they never got the chance. At the sight of the familiar desert truck parked in its usual spot near the bars and shops that made up the area surrounding a nearby sports arena Erika was already taking off like a little girl who was promised ice cream instead of an intelligent, independent young woman who was... promised ice cream. These rare outbursts of childlike whimsy always struck Drew on more levels than he cared to admit. They were reminders of moments his own childhood had decidedly lacked. In many ways Erika's decent into being able to enjoy the little things in life made him feel a touch awkward and uncomfortable as he had limited experience in such things. In spite of this Erika always had a way of drawing him out of himself and the strange, often overwhelming world he'd been thrust into and allowed him to simply be.
"I think we could do a week." Drew had waited to continue their conversation until the brunette had gleefully been handed her sugary treat and the two had started moving away from the truck. His words came out quickly as if he'd been waiting for Erika to start digging into whatever diabetic coma threatening confection she'd chosen. "I don't have anything I can't reschedule and you've got a while before mid-terms.." Drew trailed off, letting the idea percolate inside both their heads for the time being.

Drew nodded, pleased at the thought of being able to squeeze some alone time with Erika out of a business trip he wasn't all too excited to take in the first place. It seemed the moment he'd graduated college (the first time) his life took off and began moving far too fast. He was 22, a year removed from school, and it sometimes felt like he couldn't even manage to find enough time in a week or month to see his girlfriend regularly, let alone be an equally active participant in their relationship. This fact alarmed him more than he would let on, however, as the last thing he wanted was to look back on his life and realize he'd grown up to become his father.
"I wouldn't over pack." Drew advised with a chuckle. A number of business associates (connections forged by none other than the elder Conner) lived in the Southern US leaving Drew with more than a pausing knowledge of the climate. "It still hits seventy* during the day." His brow furrowed some as he took a moment to think on Erika's last question. He knew (through the research of the already mentioned ridiculously competent assistant) what the weather was supposed to look like throughout the weekend he'd be there, though snow was something he hadn't given much thought to. "I... have no idea... I don't think they have snow..."
Drew's head shook and he quickly dismissed the notion with a wave of his hand. "Either way. No snow." A bit of a smirk touched his lips as he cast a sideways glance in the brunette's direction. "Also. No school. Parents. Obligations. Responsibilities..." Drew trailed off, knowing damn well he didn't need to continue much longer to make his point.

Just the brunette's presence alone was enough to send the worry and concern Drew had so stubbornly held onto melting away. He took in a deep breath, nodding at Erika's response. It was almost surprising that she was playing the part of the responsible one. School was something he'd damn near forgot about already. His continued education had been put on hold while he filled in for his father, which was something of a mixed bag for Drew. He appreciated the experience and opportunity to finally showcase his knowledge and talents, though he still knew getting his MBA was necessary for the future and Stanford University would only wait so long. "Yes." Drew said, moving toward the door of the office with Erika at his side. He'd had a response prepared for her inquiry about the weekend trip but, as always, she found a way to cut him off. "Ice cream."
Once he'd stopped by the receptionist's desk for a quick run down of the next morning's schedule, Drew stepped out into the cool, early evening air. His eyes rose once more to the horizon, watching the last vestiges of the sun slip between the tall building of downtown Los Angeles. "The meeting's on Friday morning." He finally ventured once the two were making their way along the sidewalk. That was one of the things he loved about the city. He never had to drive anywhere. "And I was thinking, since you didn't want to miss school, you could fly in on Saturday and then we can have you back by Sunday night."

Drew didn't immediately turn around despite finally lowering his gaze from the dreary skyline outside the office window. When Erika commented on the elder Conner's impossibly talented receptionist it elicited a short chuckle. As concerned as he'd obviously been when she entered, the brunette always seemed to know the exact right words to draw him back to the present. "Yeah." He nodded faintly, taking in a deep breath. He knew turning around and catching sight of his longtime girlfriend would cause his worry to melt away but something in the back of his mind gave him pause. Something didn't want him to to let go of this trouble until a resolution had been found.
After an uncomfortably long moment Drew tore himself away from the window. His head nodded slowly, though it seemed it was more to himself than acknowledging anything Erika had said. "I think you are exactly right." He conceded with an adoring smile touching his features while he crossed the room. He paused, his brow furrowing for a brief moment. "Oh." Another pause followed as he leaned in for a short greeting kiss. "My father's extended his sabbatical another three weeks. He wants me to oversee the Boldin-Fitzgerald acquisition in Dallas next week." The usual stern expression wore when discussing anything work related faded for just a moment and he gave a smile. "I thought maybe we could make a weekend out of it?"

Time: 1745 - Late Autumn, 2013 Place: Los Angeles, California, USA
The name on the door wasn't his, Lord knows Drew was far too young yet to be handed the executive reins of the massive conglomerate his father served as majority owner, chairman and CEO, but that didn't stop the junior Conner from taking on a much larger role during his father's absence. Drew, official title be damned, stood in the spacious corner office that wasn't his (yet), back to the door, gaze directed out to the hazy, overcast sky that was growing ever darker as the sun slipped beyond the horizon.
Troubled, dark eyes flitted restlessly across the Los Angeles skyline searching desperately for anything that could distract their owner from the concerns weighing on his mind. If the worry had stemmed from the family company's stock prices or the upcoming meeting with advertising partners at the end of the week, Drew wouldn't have allowed time to unknowingly slip by as he had. Those were concerns, of course, but ones Drew had been groomed for years to overcome. If work was the only thing on his mind, Drew would have been sitting in an upscale restaurant with his longtime girlfriend just as they'd planned a week before.
It wasn't until the door to 'his' office opened that Drew snapped back to the present. His eyes flicked down to the watch on his wrist before closing as he exhaled sharply. He didn't need to look behind him to know who had entered. Only one person had unrestricted access to the office when he was filling in for his father. He didn't immediately turn around, rather he quickly returned his gaze to the window as he drew in a short breath. "I'm sorry." His voice came out low, the concern showing plainly in spite of the few words.

- The TV screen fades in to a pretty, yet approachable blonde woman sitting behind a news desk. A graphic byline pops up onto the bottom of the picture displaying the text 'Jennifer Lewis - AMZ News Anchor' -
"Welcome back to AMZ News. We're continuing our month long segment profiling the ten most eligible bachelors under thirty by going a little out of the norm for our fourth pick. AMZ New reporter Erin Alexander for more."
- The screen flashes a brilliantly colored graphic featuring the number 4. A voice over cut through -
"Although the the least known selection on this list, Drew Conner comes in at number four. As the heir to the Conner family empire, Drew is in line to head an international corporate conglomerate worth."
- Still images flash on screen of a dark haired, brown eyed young man stepping out of a small coffee shop, climbing into the back of a limousine, and walking along a busy street. Each shot finds the young man clad in a sharply tailored suit of some sort. -
"The twenty three year old heir and his twin sister attended a prestigious private academy at the age of fourteen before moving on to Stanford University where Drew ultimately earned his MBA. Aside from standing to inherit a controlling stake in one of the largest corporate conglomerates in the country, sources close to the heir say he chooses to remain outside the spotlight, instead focusing on his position within his family's corporate management firm. His busy schedule has been cited as the main reason he's been linked to a number of young ladies around his Southern California residence."
- Still images of the same dark haired young man in the company of a statuesque brunette girl, a pretty redhead, and a serious, but attractive blonde -
"But apparently none of them have managed to capture our number four's heart for long. Sources say the young executive has attempted to fade into the background of his corporate environment, choosing to advance based upon merit, rather than his family's name. He's humble, hard working, determined and in line to inherit a mega-corporation, what's more to love? It seems our number four selection is the complete package. For AMZ News, I'm Erin Alexander."

Telepathy | noun |te·lep·a·thy |\tə-ˈle-pə-thē\ \a way of communicating thoughts directly from one person's mind to another person's mind without using words or signals. Derivative of the Ancient Greek words 'tele' (distant) and 'pathos' (feeling, perception, passion, affliction, experience). This term was first used in 1882 by Frederic W.H. Myers, a classical scholar and a founder of the Society for Psychical Research.
In a less literal, academic sense, Drew Conner is capable of lifting thoughts and memories of the individuals around him. Drew can, under certain circumstances, communicate telepathically but refrains from doing so.
Anything hiding beneath the conscious, 'surface' of an individuals mind are lifted in a similar manner as downloading an audio or video file. With a willing (or vulnerable) target, Drew is able to 'buffer' the mental 'files' being lifted, though, in most cases, he must wait until enough of the memory or thought is transferred into his own mind before it can be processed and analyzed. This allows Drew to retain access to the images that play through his mind much in the same fashion as a video playback even after the connection with a target has been severed, provided he was able to maintain the link long enough.
Due to the time and effort involved in 'downloading' more embedded, hidden thoughts and memories, the sometimes randomness of a person's surface thoughts are Drew's bread and butter. Strong or prevalent thoughts can usually be lifted with ease and are visualized in vivid images or gut feelings giving Drew the reputation for being a very intuitive individual, as opposed to being 'outed' as a telepath.
Communicating using this power is spotty, at best, in most cases. In order to project his own thoughts or memories into someone else, Drew must be intimately familiar with the intended target's mind. Because of this, the only person he's capable of consistently 'speaking' with, even from a distance, is his twin sister. At times he's been able of 'forcing' a thought or memory into an unfamiliar mind but more often than not it comes out disjointed and vague, at best. He's been known to be able to maintain a telepathic link with his sister over a distance of nearly 2 miles due to the many years of growing acclimated with one other's mental faculties. Anyone else, the limit of the communication aspect of Drew's power ranges from a few feet to those unfamiliar, to roughly 30 meters in those he's comfortable with.
LIMITATIONS
- Drew must be in line of sight to his target and, with the exception of his sister, with whom he shares an exclusive link, must be within a 30 meter range.
- Other mental activity in the area can inhibit the 'download speed', or even the connection itself. Attempting to scan and read someone standing on the other side of a crowded room takes great effort and, depending on the overall circumstances and nature of the gathering, may be impossible even if the target is well within the 30 meter range limit.
- When attempting to make a mental connection with someone it's possible for stronger thoughts to interfere, causing the mental link to wander in the direction of the more powerful thoughts. This has resulted in confusion as Drew accidentally links with an unintended target and begins to scan through their surface thoughts.
- It takes a great deal of effort to be able to communicate with someone clearly and easily. To date, his twin is the only person he's managed to connect with on such a level where telepathic communication is nearly effortless and even that took a lifetime to create. Otherwise, the best he can hope is a disjointed sentence or muddled images.
- 'Downloading' a particularly detailed, powerful, or vivid memory could take upwards of a few minutes. Recognition of anything other than what is residing on the surface of someone's mind isn't instant and the longer a connection is active, the higher chance of interference.
- While memories that have been transferred can be studied and analyzed mentally even after the connection with the target has been severed, they begin to fade after roughly an hour, limiting the amount of information that can be gleaned. Within two hours only vague flashes of the memory remains.
- Empaths or those with exceptionally strong wills can sense the mental connection and, if applicable, can move to block it. Drew is highly susceptible to other telepaths in the sense that nearly any attempt to prevent his mental connection from lifting their thoughts results in a sort of telepathic backlash that causes his mind to glitch. Although this doesn't happen often it's an incredibly uncomfortable experience Drew has described as being 'hit by a flash grenade while being tasered'.
SIDE-EFFECTS
- As with most telepaths, overuse of his power can result in physical maladies such as headaches, nose bleeds, vertigo, nausea and loss of consciousnesses.
- On occasion, Drew's mind has connected with someone unintentionally and begun to transfer random memories and thoughts. Aside from being increasingly distracted and uncomfortable, Drew is only able to willingly sever the connection without physically removing himself from the target's vicinity about half the time. Once a connection is made, Drew has no control over what gets lifted and, on rare instances, even his own thoughts or memories have been known to leak into the unwitting person.
- Because the mental faculty that facilitates the connection with others is almost constantly active, Drew is highly susceptible to having his own mind read since another telepath need only 'link' with an already open connection. Ironically enough, when 'linked' to another telepath he can communicate with them far more easily than usual.
- If his power isn't used regularly (at least once a week), Drew becomes very antsy and edgy. His mind wants to draw the images and thoughts from others to the point where it's an actual need. If his mental faculties aren't flexed and taken care of, his power has been known to go haywire resulting in jitters, bouts of hyperactivity, disjointed thoughts and lack of focus.
- By the same token, Drew's mind operates much in the way of a highly developed muscle. He is constantly in need of intellectual stimulation. Because of this, Drew is always studying, reading, or delving into one of his many 'professional' pursuits in order to keep his mind sharp and working properly.
- While an individual's surface thoughts and active memories can be read easily and discreetly, if Drew wished to dig any deeper than what a person is thinking at that moment it become apparent to the target something is awry. It's been reported that it feels as thought someone is 'tugging at their sub-conscious'. Those more in tune with mental powers (or telepaths themselves) will know exactly what thoughts and memories are being accessed and transferred. PLAYED BY pup puppYmaster#0713 male » usa/PST » Old AF
