This wasn't some kind of payback.
Despite her circumstances and rocky relationships with past classmates or even old friends, Vera was beyond allowing high school and college drama help make her choices as a woman. Her decisions had nothing to do with how she viewed her old friends or enemies - but damn, it sure looked that way. Vera was always pro-mutant and always would continue to be... it was just that the lines between the two became blurred. She'd always consider the ones in the camps and cages as the most powerful. You were stupid not to think so. The humans? They were knew how to work smarter, not harder. They had ways to overpower mutants with simple planning... and for now, they won. They didn't necessarily mean anything to Vera. She didn't fear them, it was just her situation that made her feel uneasy.
She was supposed to be dead and because she feared death so much, Vera was now being punished for it. MREA knew how to convince her that this was way better than death. They weren't wrong but it wasn't exactly a vacation. At least from where she stood, she had a chance at life far better than the captured mutants or those who chose to hide. As long as she worked as Public Affairs, they promised to keep her family safe - an offer she didn't dare refuse.
While many of the other Guardians did the dirty work, Vera worked with a team that kept the public informed, or in this case... a mutant. As she made her way down a hall that led to one of many highly secured room, she was escorted by security. She held onto a manila folder filled with the information necessary to get her point across for this "meeting" with Ellen Banks. Funny thing, all Vera could think about were their days at Bellefonte and how rocky their relationship had become. At one point, she used to envy the woman. Now, look at where the future brought them.
As she reached the door, Vera paused before looking back at the two men who escorted her. "I can do this alone. Just wait outside, it won't take long," she said with no real time for them to object before making her way in. Even if she wanted to, Ellen couldn't use her powers on her. Once upon a time, Vera had a taste of Ellen's hypnosis and didn't plan on going down that route again... "Ms. Banks." A half-assed smile planted on her face as she was now face-to-face with the one person who knew how to make her life a living hell. And now? Vera couldn't help but feel sorry for her.
Taking a seat across from her "old friend", she placed the manila folder on the table. "I know I'm the last person you'd hope to see - because trust me, I'm still getting used to being seen. But I see you're still alive, so they must be treating you well here. Or using you well..."
