WORDS: 445 | In a way, the organization had him. Sure, it was easier for them to have him around, but they could find another researcher. He couldn't be too vocal then. Not that it mattered much, they all knew he was the one who had the most to win and certainly the most to lose in this relatioship. He could now and then challenge their beliefs but he would never go too far. He did believe it was better to have a researcher who could view them as humans though. The experiments could be very rough and the care was more on getting the best data possible than the people going through it. As long as no one made reference to what the Japanese did to the Chinese... but then again, how many of them even knew of this? Without meaning to call them ignorant, he didn't think they cared much about their history, let alone that of others.
"I think you give me more credit than I deserve. I do speak my mind on occasion but I'm sure they see it more as some mad scientist's rant. I am not trying to change their beliefs, merely pointing out that we may have a similar goal but different views." He wondered if she said it because she did the same or wished to do something similar herself. Kentaro couldn't say he knew a lot of people based on their personality. He knew their powers, he could help them regarding those, but didn't think much of them passed that detail.
"Useful... That seems to be the only thing of importance as of late." He didn't come to America because he thought he could be useful. He wanted to learn. And then he got caught up in this mess. He didn't feel like he could complain too muc, as it was the case for everyone, but they did end up being put inside categories. How dangerous were you and if you were, how useful could you be? This organization was truly powerful to have so may bending their knee to them only to survive. At the same time, they may fall one day. But Kentaro didn't care about this. All he wanted was to focus on his research.
She was a bit confused by what he said. Maybe he didn't express himself properly. English was not his first language after all. "I wanted to understand why I got this ability and how it affected me on a biological and genetic level. This helped me understand other people's powers a little better too, and this knowledge also bettered the one I had of mine." Was it better to understand that way?

WORDS:487 | Was it really dangerous to talk like this? Kentaro had never made it a secret before. He was not aggressive in his way of speaking his mind, he merely pointed out a fact they all knew. That didn't stop him from working for the MREA. The youg woman seemed surprised of this. "They know," he assured her. He could point out that it was stupid to get rid of him because he may not share their beliefs, considering his skills outweighed this little problem. Plus he never really left the camps so you could argue he was a contained problem, in other words under control. "They hired me because they saw my notes and I accepted because it was the only way I could continue my research. We may disagree on certain things but we're useful to each other." He also thought he was a better choice because he cared about mutants and not only as lab rat to test on. He had a genuine desire to understand beyond how he could use those powers. Maybe that sometimes made him reluctant to perform certain experiments but he also knew how little choice he had on the matter. The fact he was the best option could also play against him sometimes.
In the end, Kentaro knew his place and without being loyal to this cause, he would not sabotage it. Roxana didn't sound like a loyalist either. More like someone in the same situation he was. He believed a lot of the mutants working as a guardian were the same. It was hard to imagine you wanting to kill fellow mutants purely out of hatred for them. It was more that it was their best solution if they wanted to survive.
Training and improving one's skill. In a way, he wished they could do that with everyone here, as this would make his job even more interesting, but there were just so many they preferred to keep in check. As long as they remained under control, the rest was not as important. "You are lucky to be among those who can still improve, it's good that you do it," he told her. He really believed like this was the thing to do, that everyone should do, for everyone's sake and not just their own. To him, it was a passion, as you had to put the efforts into improving your skills and becoming the best you can be.
He didn't think it was not as good as his passion. "I wanted to understand mutations because I first wanted to understand my own and see its full extent," he admitted. He was curious about hers too. Since she was well trained, he didn't need to really check on her and as a result had little personal information about Roxana. He was curious to see if that crystal boulder would really still be there by the time they returned to it.

WORDS: 347 | Kentaro had always been curious and passionate about powers, ever since he discovered he had one himself. He wanted to understand, that was the reason he had in mind when he first joined science clubs and later picked that line of work. He didn't just want to test his power, he wanted to learn about it from the basics, on a genetic level. It was also why he was so passionate about others' abilities. He wanted to learn about those too and if he had to push them, he would.
He supposed they did pick the right person for the job then. He was not sure how much he liked it. It wasn't like he believed in their view of mutants but that was the only way he found to continue his research. More than that, he was offered more resource and leniency. He did have to satisfy some of their demands, of course, and report everything, but his options were very limited here and so he agreed. "I dont know if 'pick' is the right word for any of us, but we have limited options and at least like that I can continue my work." He never would have thought they would offer him this position. That they would use hi work, sure, but not that they'd let him continue. "I'm not trying to be cruel to anyone," he felt the need to justify. Some people didn't understand his practical mind, saw cruelty if not worse in it, but he never intended to hurt anyone and never did that on purpose when it happened. Sometimes though, science could be seen like this.
Roxana accepted his apology and gestured for them to continue. He resumed the jog. He found it a tad amusing to talk of passion, but he supposed it was the right word this time. "What are you passionate about?" he asked in return. He did want to learn a little more of her, if only because he had not seen someone else with a power like hers and she seemed to control it very well.

WORDS 492 | Kentaro had never done any heavy training. He had gym classes, played some games with friends, but that was it. He had no power that would require him to train physically. This jog felt a lot more like something he was used to. Then again, he was used to jog on pavement, not sand, but it was still common movements for him and an activity he found out his body had not forgotten about. Maybe he could do that more often, and not necessarily with Rox. He just needed to make sure he wouldn’t get lost along the way. As of now, he fully trusted the younger woman to know where they were going.
He knew that what he truly wanted for the boy basically meant finding a way to put an end to his power, but would that really be a bad thing? He understood how some may be called less a gift and more a curse. At the same time, he didn’t want to remove a power entirely, but that would make for a very incredible scientific finding if achieved. “That would be impossible, I’d say. After all, you can create an antidote only by working from the toxin itself. I would say no toxic-based power produces the same one, but that would be interesting to have two people with the exact power and see if the same antitoxin works on both.” That would sadly be amongst the many theories and hypotheses he can make for now and possibly may never be able to answer.
This conversation had him also become less into the physical activity. To the point that, when she commented on how much he seemed to care, he slowed down. He nearly tripped to for a time. He didn’t realise that he was almost at a stop, his mind no longer allowing him to move as it focused on thinking. He quickly noticed this however and shook himself up. “I do know what it’s like to have a power that can kill people without you meaning to, so I guess I can relate, to a certain point. He provides me with a challenge and an opportunity to study in depth something that interests me,” he explained. It was true that he could end up caring more than he should for certain of his ‘test subjects’. He could not help it, but it generally started from the power or the data he got from the tests than the person themselves. Then again, their attitude might also play a role.
He was also interested in Rox’s power and wanted to know more but he realised how much he stalled them with all of this. “I’m sorry, I asked you to take on your time for this and I’m not even training properly.” He guessed the questioning could go for after they return to her crystal boulder once the training was done. He assumed she just wanted them to jog.

@open WORDS: 260 | Kentaro could no longer deny it, he took a wrong turn somewhere on his way to the lab. You'd think that after five years he knew his way around the compound but Kentaro always had a terrible sense of direction. He knew the medical building well, or how to get from there to his sleeping quarters but for anything else, he was usually accompanied and he merely followed that person. That was the case on his way out to give his report on his recent research but an emergency called his escort away. No doubt they assumed he knew his way around by now and would be fine. He just proved them wrong.
At first, Kentaro had been confident but as he tried to find his way back he realised that the indications were few and far between. He still thought he got it right but any landmark there to help him were seen from a different view and that certainly helped him in getting lost. He wouldn't have known however had he not walked into a room and turned out to have very little to do with a laboratory and a lot more with a training ground. To make sure the guardians remained in shape, he assumed. Speaking of which, there was one such person there.
Being used to this situation by now, his ego was no longr embarrassed when he had to come and ask for directions, so he walked inside the room towards the guardian. Excuse me, do you know the way to the medical department from here?"

WORDS 440 | Ever since he had been transferred here, Kentaro couldn’t say he went out a lot. Past the fact that he had a terrible sense of direction that could easily get him lost, he didn’t go out mostly because he had no reason to. Being here, away from his work space with the clear water and clearer sky reminded him of all he pushed aside to focus on his work instead. He should do that more. Perhaps even go in town, if they would let him. He didn’t know if they would let him though.
He was glad that his body was not so stiff even after so little workout. It still remembered the movements he used to do so often in the past and he was not out of breath yet. It would have been such a blow to him otherwise. Satisfied that his body would follow without hitting him with a sudden cramp, he was able to talk with Roxana. He meant to shake his head but he stopped his movement mid-way. Not only was it not a good idea with them being in movement but he also doubted she’d notice it. “Vaccine wouldn’t be the term here. I’m talking of something you take before to counter the effects, but it wouldn’t last as long as a vaccine. More like a medication you take in precaution,” he explained. Again he wanted to talk in more details but he knew how science and medicine can be complicated to understand when you didn’t have good knowledge of it so he tired to go with something simple to explain himself.
Kentaro fell silent for a moment but he was not focused on the scenery and his jog. He was lost in his thoughts. “The ideal would be to counter the toxin altogether. He’s lucky that it doesn’t always seep out of him but it must be a terrible feeling to know you could poison just anyone if you are not careful.” Kentaro was well placed to understand how hard it could be on someone’s mind. His victims had so far been only of the rodent species but he could kill people as well as healing them. On his case however, it wouldn’t be by accident. He didn’t know if that made it better or worse. He doubted he could do what he just told Roxana. Not only did he lack the knowledge but he didn’t think it was something they’d let him work on. There were just so many other mutants for him to study and gather information about, he was lucky they let him even continue so far on this case.

WORDS:407 | Kentaro was glad he got Roxana to train him. Others might go pretty intense with it. This was not what he wanted. He didn't need big muscles, just to be in good enough shape to carry himself around. He had been raised with physical health being very important and that meant maintain a certain weight. What Roxana proposed for training today was a lot more along the lines he wanted. Plus running was something he used to do so he was confident, even if it had been a while since he ever played soccer. He did live not too far from water in his youth so the sand was not too much of an issue either. It even brought some memories, although Kentaro did not linger on them. There was no time for this and he was too practical to stray from his main goal here.
He did look at the water though. Sand, he could take but he didn’t know how cold the water was. This was another thought he pushed away as he took off his shoes. He might not be wearing workout clothes but it was of a light enough fabric to allow him to move freely. He rolled up his sleeves and placed his shoes on the boulder she previously sat on, as she told him to do. He was still impressed by what her power could achieve and how long it could last without her being around to maintain it in place. He wondered if there was no way of making it permanent. Again, he had to stop his mind from going away from what he was here for.
The jog helped. It took some time for him not to be too wobbly on his feet with the sand underneath. This was no even ground but he thought he managed to get a good pace. She gave him some extra challenge as she talked to him though. His brain would just love to stop and go back to his work and analyses and hypotheses. He needed to separate the action his body did and his thoughts. “There is a boy who can poison people through touch. We’ve created an anti-toxin but I was hoping we could create something to use as a pre-emptive action.” He spared her the details, less because he wanted to keep them to himself and more because he knew how complicated and uninteresting it could be to others.

WORDS: 299 | Kentaro was not surprised of the answer. It was his belief that anyone with a mental ability should have his brain scanned at least once a year, especially if they started feeling mental fatigue, migraines or worse. He had noticed how some people’s side-effects could greatly impact one’s health or even lifespan. He only had to look at his own power, which had caused a lot of damage before even if the casualties had so far been limited to a bunch of rodents.
He was not here to think about his own side-effects though. He knew enough about those. His interest was all on the young woman before him. Her looks alone could justify this but his real interest was beyond mere appearance. She could have looked a lot more bland that she would not have been less interesting to him.
He knew that his exam wouldn’t be too hard to bear. It was not meant to test all that she could do but to see how her brain reacted when she used her power. As such, he saw no need to push her to the edge. Again, it was something he may decide was important to do but he was only starting here and would like to compile his date first.
Since she asked him no question, he assumed she was fine with the test. He gestured at the scanning machine so she could lie on it. “You can keep your hands to your chest but try to avoid bringing them towards your face,” he told her as a last warning before they would set the scan on. Kentaro just wanted to go straight to the monitors but he still made sure she would be comfortable first. He didn’t want to have to stop it all halfway through.

WORDS: 546 | When it came to his work, the MREA gave Kentaro almost unlimited resource. That showed just how valuable they saw information about mutations. What they would do after with that information, he chose not to care about. When you are ready to do a little evil in order to make a greater good you have to accept the fact that some may use it to do even more evil. As long as he could continue his research, it was all he would focus on. He really felt like this was the only efficient way to do it.
If they cared a great deal about what his knowledge and experiments can bring, they cared significantly less about his well-being. Kentaro was comfortable. He didn't need much and his basic needs were satisfied but he had grown restless a bit as of late. There was a time when Kentaro did sports. Back in elementary and middle school, he played soccer and baseball. He might not have been the best, but that kept him in shape. That and walking to school every day. He couldn’t say his walk to the lab was anything similar, nor his pacing around the camps with someone usually escorting him. It was true that this was not necessity. It also took on his time he should use to continue his work. But Kentaro didn’t want to wake up one day too weak to carry himself. Or worse, too fat to see his feet. It was why he wanted to keep in shape.
He didn’t need much. It wasn’t like his job required him to be at his peak in terms of physical strength and he didn’t want that. Or maybe seeing so many of the mutants in the camps turning apathetic over time got him to fear he would be next. Kentaro had share this desire of his with other Guardians. A few wondered why he bothered with this, since he was just a researcher and didn't need to physically train for his work, but one agreed to help him out. It was good, for he was able to get lost on his way of any training ground they used themselves to stay fit.
At least the place Roxana wanted him to go was easy to locate. Outside, the sea, the sand. Finding the exact spot might be a bit tougher but she was easy to notice. He saw the crystal boulder she was sitting on. Despite knowing she could make those, he was still impressed by what certain abilities allowed them to do. He looked at her sitting there for a moment. He didn't mind asking someone younger to train him. He was too practical to care about that. She may be younger but she clearly had more experience in that field.
He shook his head at her question. “I have spent the last hour or so sitting on a chair writing reports, I’m happy to have a chance to stretch my legs for a bit.” He didn’t mind if she wanted to take a moment before starting the training but he was also fine standing up. He did feel like he should remove his shoes though, if he wanted to be comfortable with all this sand, but other than that he was fine.

WORDS: 421 | Kentaro tried to remain as stoic as he could but perhaps a light in his eyes betrayed is excitement. He would remain professional though. This was far too important to act in any other way. He didn't really need to ask for Evelyn’s consent. He was pretty sure he could just go above her head and get it approved whether or not she wanted to. But he liked to believe he was doing all of this for the mutants. He didn’t understand how some could not be curious on how their power worked. After all, how could you use its full potential if you didn’t even understand how that was possible? Did he need a brain scan for it though? Maybe no, but it was something he really wanted to see: what parts of the brain would light up when a power was used. He supposed he could justify his action by looking for potential tumors or brain damage.
He didn’t need to use those excuses with her though - even if he’d still look at it. There had been a tiny complication at first since she needed to see the object to freeze it but Kentaro refused to let that stop him. He made sure she could have a small non-metallic object with her. This would make the image blurry when she’ll move but he could make up for it by having her hold on until she felt some mental strain. With all that done, he was ready for her.
“Ever had a brain scan before?” he asked, knowing how daunting the machine could be. She might end up feeling trapped in there, as some people do. Kentaro had a small red ball with him he handed to her. “When I will tell you, I want you to freeze this ball. You won’t have a lot of space to move but it should be fine.” He looked at the machine. She should have no problem fitting in and move if her arms were already placed against her chest. Honestly, even if she were uncomfortable in there, he wouldn’t care too much. As long as he got his images. “I want you to hold it until I tell you to stop or you feel any pressure to your brain. It’s not a test of endurance, so there is no need to push yourself too far and hold as long as you can.” Not for that test at least but they would have plenty of time to look at this later on.

Kentaro/Roxana Well, the fact they are Guardians is basically the only reason why I'd like them to RP together, if only once. If you want more plot than that, she could be interested in some of his work, or he could be curious about her employers and even more about her years at St. Cadou and her training. Or he could just ask her to train him to keep in shape. I'm free for any other plot you can find for those two, honestly.

Kentaro/Evelyn Don't ask me why but I can't help to think Ken would love to look at her brain while she uses her power just to see what lights up! I think he would also be up to pushing the strength and limits of her power, especially about freezing only parts of a person. He's also pretty good at rationalizing things so she can be her most rational, emotionless self without him minding.

Kentaro/Vera Kentaro started his research at Bellefonte before it fell than became a Guardian to continue it. You wrote that she extended the use of her ability since she became a Guardian. He could have been a part of that. He's the kind to have pushed her power to its limits just to see what could happen. He does not enjoy inflicting pain at all but she could have a thing against him because of that. I think Vera is one of the Guardians who could more easily antagonize him if you want to go there and it could be interesting.

[googlefont="Krub"] [attr="class","boldtext"] Kentaro Itonokogiri LOOKS LIKE Takumi Saitoh Kentaro was born in Sakai City in the prefecture of Osaka in Japan. While it may be hard to people to hear it, he still speaks with an accent from his hometown, although you can tell pretty much only when he speaks in Japanese. Kentaro is multilingual, he speaks a bit of Mandarin, Korean and English. He has always been a very curious person, which explained why he picked those languages. He likely would have learned more - and is sometimes considering it - had he not grown a liking for science instead. Kentaro hates when people talk to him in Japanese, or, to be exact, gives him one or two words as though he doesn't understand hello or goodbye in English. Or worse, when they mimic his accent as he speaks. Yes, English is not his first language, there is no need to mock the way some words sounds because of that.
As a child, his life was uneventful. Like any other kid his age, he had friends, went to school, did chores and got tormented by his older sister Momoe as per the 'older sibling's right'. It was nothing too scarring though, mere sibling's love, until she started losing interest in him to focus more on idols or hair product. If he joined a few clubs in his youth, he didn't like science back then. This came later in his life . Back then, he was more into soccer or simply playing with friends.
It was known in the family that some of its members were mutants. Kentaro happened to be one of them. He found out at fourteen. At that time, he had a cast, having broken his wrist. He pushed another student away from him and the boy fell on the floor, in pain. Kentaro thought it was highly exaggerated, since he didn't even push him that hard. It turned out that he gave the boy his broken wrist, or at least fractured the bone somehow. His wrist still being in a cast, he had no idea it was his power manifesting just yet, but other small incidents happened during the next few days, where he just suddenly took on people's cuts and bruises. Again, he wouldn't have thought much of it - he just thought he could not remember when he hurt himself but must have done so while playing - had someone not found the incident with the other boy peculiar and recruiters came knocking at his door. A week after the first incident, Kentaro was then sent to Saino, the Japanese school for mutants.
It was there that Kentaro's curiosity took him to science. He wanted to know everything about his power, and about his fellow students'. He wanted to understand more than how to handle it but why he got it, how it worked, on a genetic level. Kentaro took part of every science-oritented clubs within the schools and always volunteered to work on the labs, even if all he had to do was to clean test tubes. Luckily for him, Kentaro had the smarts to back up his curiosity, something people wouldn't have guessed at first glanced with out easily he lost things or couldn't find his way around. When it comes to space, Kentaro simply has a terrible sense of direction.
Upon graduating, Kentaro refused to leave it at that. He studied medecine, mostly genetics. His hope was to become some sort of expert on mutation. He was fascinated by the limitations and side-effects, trying to suppress those if that was possible. He knew it was a controversial matter for some but he didn't see it that way. When Kentaro is interested in something, he goes all the way, even if his actions may be regarded as villainous by some. He can even manipulate people or experiment on them without them even knowing to what extent, all this for curiosity's sake. This is what led him to want and seek out other experts and see how mutations were handled elsewhere. He made a request to travel and gather some data on the matter. Bellefonte welcomed him.
Kentaro was still there when Bellefonte fell. He was among those that were caught. At first, he ordered them to release him and let him go back to Japan, claiming they had no right to hold him. Of course, they had no desire to comply. Saino eventually fell as well. Not to add that the government got their hands on his research and became really interested in it. To his surprise, they made him quite an offer. They let him work about powers, their limitations and their side-effects on as many mutants as he wanted. All he needed for that was to become a Guardian and they'd give him everything he wanted. He knew what that meant, what they could do with that knowledge, but this research was what interested him the most and he was certain it could also do good to the powered people. Sometimes, doing a little evil can lead to something good. That is what he believes. Kentaro can end up considering his ‘projects’ almost like his babies and any achievements they do afterwards makes him proud. He truly believes he can help them, despite them being stuck in camps. It isn’t like he is totally free himself. 🎂 Thirty-One 🧠 Male 💕 heterosexual 💼 Guardian / researcher 🧬 Healing transfer 📗yellow HEALING TRANSFER Ken has the ability to transfer someone’s wounds/disease onto him and vice versa. His power works on both humans and animals. He needs to physically touch a person (skin to skin contact with his hands) for it to work, preferably where the wound is. Anywhere is fine but it will take longer for the transfer to occur and he risks passing on more than he meant to. Simply touching is not enough however, he must also have a desire to take the pain or pass it on, or at least to heal the person or himself. Whenever there is a transfer, the gravity is reduced by a fourth. A broken bone will become a micro-fracture for example. If he transferred it onto him, it will also eventually heal entirely although the process can take from a few minutes to several days, depending on the initial gravity of the wound/disease. Every time Ken takes on someone’s pain however, his cells will more rapidly heal it compared to a normal wound/disease. This process depends on the gravity and effects he might have suffered due to the transfer with the healing being of a few minutes in minor bruises to a few days in terms of deeper, life-threatening wounds. This healing deteriorates his cells at a more rapid rate however. If he keeps healing repeatedly and it is left unattended, it can shut down his whole system, much like a widespread cancer. This is where his transfer ability becomes vital: he must pass it on a living being in order to regenerate his cells. The creature will die of it however.
LIMITATIONS - Ken can only heal physical ailment. He cannot cure mental diseases. He also cannot grow back limbs or heal deformities as the person was born like this. He cannot make scars disappear as the wound healed already. - Certain powers can prevent his from working (if it is some form of shield or thickened skin to resist certain attacks). He cannot heal or transfer wounds to those people. - While he can save someone on the brink of death, once they are dead, there is nothing he can do. - He must have a desire to heal in order for his power to work. In other words, if threatened, his power will refuse to work. Through training, he managed to control desire to make it into intent and prevent from healing just anyone all of the time, but he cannot heal or transfer wounds to someone without meaning to do so. - He must touch the person's skin with his hand(s) in order for the transfer to occur, there mustn’t be clothes in the way (hair, scales or feathers are not an issue however). The transfer cannot happen if there is no contact. It is almost instantaneous, deeper wounds/graver diseases taking only a few seconds for the transfer to occur. - While he can heal faster from a wound he transferred onto himself, injuries he would get normally will not heal faster. He also cannot pass down his rapid healing to a person but the wounds are naturally reduced by a fourth of its original gravity during a transfer. It is this rapid cell regeneration that also causes them to deteriorate faster.
SIDE-EFFECTS - While Ken will eventually heal from the injury he passed onto him, anything being a consequence of that injury remains. If he took on a stab wound, he will still have to get over the blood loss. If the blood loss was big, he will lose consciousness and will not awake faster just because his body healed the wound, it will take a normal amount of time. - Until his body regenerates from whatever ailment he transfered onto him, he will endure the effects of it. If the person was coughing, he will be coughing too until healed. - Healing people causes his cells to decay and die, much like a cancer that will originate where he healed the first person. He may be able to regenerate enough cells after one or two small healings, but prolonged use makes the cells die all over his body which can then shut down his system and kill him. It can also leave necrosis on the area until the transfer that can be spotted by people. He cannot naturally heal from it, he needs to transfer it to another host who will die from it. - Since the only way to heal the cell deterioration is to pass it on another living being, his power basically demands that Kentaro kills in order to survive. Even if he does so mostly on rodents, this still leaves deep emotional and psychological scars.
